On June 7th, the Planning Commissioners, after listening to hundreds of citizens comments at public hearings, wisely rejected the North Fillmore Specific Plan and EIR. Many longtime residents as well as newer residents appeared at the public hearings to voice their legitimate concerns in opposition to the plan.

However, the City Council on June 13th ignored the Planning Commission and the concerns of the citizens of Fillmore and voted 3-1 to certify the defective EIR.

So far, in all of the hearings there have been NO residents in support of this plan. What I have heard at these hearings is the heart of Fillmore. Those citizens that truly care enough about this town to invest their time and energy WITHOUT PAY for the community.

Mr. Ralph Rees has thoughtfully drafted a lower density plan that the Planning Commission and City should take a look at. Sun Cal has not been able to come up with a reasonable, lower density plan in spite of repeated requests. Mr. Rees’s plan satisfies the objectives of the North Fillmore Plan and respects the Vision 2020 goals.
